National Nonprofit Event to Honor Local Military and Military Families
Boston, MA (PRWEB) September 23, 2014
Hope For The Warriors® is excited to announce the Got Heart, Give Hope® Celebration to be hosted in Boston, Massachusetts on Sunday, November 9, 2014 at the Seaport World Trade Center Amphitheater. This signature event honors the courage of our wounded service members, their families, and the families of the fallen. Proceeds from the evening will benefit Hope For The Warriors®, a national nonprofit dedicated to restoring a sense of self, restoring the family unit, and restoring hope for our service members and our military families.
One of the highlights of the evening will be the The Vigiano Family Hope & Courage Awards that will be given to service members and military families who have demonstrated both hope and courage in facing challenges after their injuries. Hope For The Warriors® will honor the courage of each award recipient, focusing on the hope they inspire through their remarkable stories of recovery and achievement.
This year’s Boston Celebration will celebrate the real heroes behind the HBO® movie, Taking Chance, as well as attendance of those involved with making the film. The film is based on the true events of Lt. Col. Michael Strobl, a volunteer military escort officer, accompanying the body of 19-year-old Marine Chance Phelps back to his hometown of Dubois, Wyoming. In attendance will be Director Ross Katz, Stobl, and the parents of Phelps—John Phelps and Gretchen Mack.
“We are proud to represent Taking Chance on its 5th anniversary and we are humbled by the involvement of both the families and film makers in this Celebration,” said Robin Kelleher, Hope For The Warriors® president.
Local business leader and Marine veteran, Tom Lyons, is part of the committee to bring this signature event to Boston. Lyons is the Founder and Chairman of the Semper Fidelis Society, Boston, is a member of the Secretary of the VA Advisory Committee on Homeless Veterans, Chairman of the Massachusetts Veteran and War Memorial Commission and a member of the Governor's Veterans Advisory Council and Chairmen of the Sub–Committee on Veterans Housing. He served in the Marine Corps from 1967 through 1970 and is a combat Veteran with a tour of duty 1968 – 1969 in Vietnam.
Lyons is the recipient of the 2011 "Marine For Life" Award presented by General James Amos, Commandant of the Marine Corps for his 30 years of advocacy on behalf of our nations Veterans. His advocacy for Hope For The Warriors® over the years has garnered countless opportunities to expand military outreach.
“The stories of our service members and military families inspire hope and courage both nationwide and in each community,” Robin Kelleher, Hope For The Warriors® President said. “The Got Heart, Give Hope® Celebrations honor their resiliency by highlighting their accomplishments in face of extraordinary challenges.”
