"The Host is a step up from the endless metaphorical lectures and gaping plot holes of Niccol’s last film, In Time, but its muffled emotions, delivered with Twilight-esque blank-eyed calm, put it in the same category of a creative idea hamstrung in execution." Tasha Robinson, The AV Club.

New Video Analysis to Identify and Prevent Endurance Injuries

Paul Hecker of Elite Physical Therapy explains the new role of video in identification and prevention of endurance injuries.

Greenville, SC (PRWEB) April 01, 2013

Paul Hecker of Elite Physical Therapy works with patients everyday to help identify and prevent injury, especially those who are active athletes. Using video technology, many of these athletes can now break down their workout and analyze their every movement. This technology allows for physical therapists and coaches to work with the athlete to help ensure they are not causing harm or setting themselves up for long term injury.

Video technology has advanced over the years, and with high speed and HD video available, computers can help analyze various angles and speeds of motion. During the 2008 Olympics when Michael Phelps won eight gold medals, this technology was used to break down every aspect of his swim stroke; revealing his impressive dimensions and techniques.

As a physical therapist, Hecker explains that high speed, high definition video technology can be utilized hand in hand with physical musculoskeletal exams. The combination of these two efforts can reveal weakness and inflexibilities that can cause various injuries. The patient can be instructed in proper techniques to avoid injury, as well as ways to alleviate pain and further harm current injuries. Seeing athletes’ techniques on screen, and slowed down, can be an eye-opening experience.

After treatment, the patient can come be filmed again, and see his or her progression. The true advantage of using video is to help prevent physical therapists from just treating the injury, but instead helping to find and correct the underlying cause.

Elite Physical Therapy has a Running Clinic designed specifically for competitive and endurance runners, who are typically prone to injury at one point or another. Their website explains more about the Dartfish Video & Motion Analysis Software they use to complete comprehensive analysis on their patients who are avid runners. More information can be found at http://www.therunningclinic.net.

About the Company

Whether the goal is to run a marathon or simply pick up a child, Elite’s open and honest staff will work with patients so they can get back to their lives. This approach goes far beyond handing over a rubber band and showing patients a couple of exercises. They spend a great deal of time getting to know their patients. As patients make their way through treatment, Elite Physical Therapy takes the time to listen and answer questions to put the patient’s mind at ease, so they can stay focused on treatment. AL East: 'Ageless' Rivera Among Few Healthy Yankees

$

AL East: 'Ageless' Rivera Among Few Healthy Yankees The New York Yankees may find out the perils of their new, penny pinching ways long before the dog days of summer.

The organization known for its monetary excess didn't so much as dip a toe in the big free agency waters this past winter. Instead, they watched all the gaudy names (Josh Hamilton, Zack Greinke, Nick Swisher) sign elsewhere while counting the walking wounded.

Shortstop Derek Jeter (no set date for return). Third baseman Alex Rodriguez (out until mid-season—at best). centerfielder Curtis Granderson (out until May), first baseman Mark Teixeira (out until late May—at best). pitcher Michael Pineda (out until mid-season, fingers crossed).

That leaves the 2013 Yankees with a serious power crisis and a cast of characters either too close to retirement age or pure reclamation projects.

The rotation looks archaic but solid, led by C.C. Sabathia, Andy Pettitte and Hiroki Kuroda. Phil Hughes, assuming his once-cranky back continues to heal, will be the fourth starter, and either David Phelps or Ivan Nova will take the fifth slot. Reinforcements can be found in the loser of the fifth spot battle as well as minor leaguer Adam Warren and reacquired ex-ace Chien-Ming Wang.

The Yankees bullpen could be even better than last year, with Joba Chamberlain fully recovered at last, a healthy David Aardsma, Dave Robertson, Boone Logan and the ageless Mariano Rivera pitching in his last Major League season.

The opening day lineup will be far less fearsome than in the past but offers the kind of speed previous Yankees teams lacked. Pencil in a rejuvenated Ichiro Suzuki and Brett Gardner, who missed most of last season, and you've got a speedy outfield duo eager to manufacture runs. Eduardo Nunez will get likely his final chance to prove his potential is legit as Jeter’s temporary replacement at short. Free agent signee Kevin Youkilis will likely play third until A-Rod returns, although Teixeira's loss may move the former Red Sox star over to first to spell new pickup Lyle Overbay.

General Manager Brian Cashman deserves heaps of credit for securing solid retreads to patch over roster holes in recent years (Freddy Garcia, Bartolo Colon, Eric Chavez and Andruw Jones).

This year, Cashman hopes a new gaggle of castaways (including Overbay and Brennan Boesch) helps the team tread water until its heavy hitters return to action. Until then, the squad's pitchers will have to keep games close, and if they remain collectively healthy they should do just that.

Bottom line: This year's Yankees team is a collection of question marks, not a postseason favorite. They'll repeat as Eastern Division champions if their senior citizens don't show their age … if Derek Jeter's ankle injury heals before May … if both Granderson and Teixeira return to form … if Youkilis isn't washed up at 34 … and if all the recent surgery scars don't become a visual metaphor for the 2013 Bronx Bombers.

That's too many “ifs” for Yankee Nation, but more than enough to give every other team in the division reason for optimism. Reported by Breitbart 5 days ago.

Transgender man refused divorce due to same-sex marriage ban

Judge says he can't approve divorce because of insufficient evidence Thomas Beatie was a man when he got married

An Arizona judge has refused to grant a divorce for a transgender man who gave birth to three children after beginning to change his sex from female.

Judge Douglas Gerlach at Maricopa County family court ruled that the state's ban on same-sex marriages prevented Thomas Beatie's nine-year union from being recognised as valid.

Beatie was born a woman. He had a double mastectomy but retained female reproductive organs and gave birth to three children.

Gerlach said he had no jurisdiction to approve a divorce because there was insufficient evidence that Beatie was a man when he married Nancy Beatie in Hawaii. The couple's divorce plans stalled last summer when Gerlach said he was unable to find legal authority defining a man as someone who can give birth.

"The decision here is not based on the conclusion that this case involves a same-sex marriage merely because one of the parties is a transsexual male, but instead, the decision is compelled by the fact that the parties failed to prove that (Thomas Beatie) was a transsexual male when they were issued their marriage license," he said.

The ruling also said it did not address whether Arizona law allowed a person who was born female to marry another female after undergoing a sex change operation.

The National Cent re for Lesbian Rights, which was not involved in the case, has said courts have declared marriages involving a transgender person invalid in a handful of cases across the US, but that those cases had different factual and legal issues than those in the Beatie case.

Beatie was born Tracy Lehuanani Lagondino in Oahu, Hawaii. He began testosterone treatment in 1997 and had a double mastectomy and chest reconstruction surgery in 2002. He changed his Hawaii driver's licence to say he was a man and had a Hawaiian court approve his name change to Thomas.

Gerlach's ruling noted that Beatie halted the testosterone treatment and didn't provide documentation for any additional non-surgical efforts.

Beatie was married in 2003 in Honolulu and became pregnant because his wife was unable to have children. He conceived with donated sperm and gave birth to three children. The couple eventually moved to Arizona.

Beatie has garnered a range of media attention, making the rounds on talk shows such as Larry King and Oprah Winfrey and winning a spot on Barbara Walters' list of "10 Most Fascinating People" in 2008, alongside President Barack Obama, conservative commentator Rush Limbaugh and swimmer Michael Phelps. He also published a book, Labor Of Love: The Story of One Man's Extraordinary Pregnancy, with the cover displaying an image of a shirtless Beatie sporting facial hair and holding a hand over his bare pregnant belly. "An 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers' retread told from a postoccupation vantage point, this adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s YA romance novel unfolds in a dystopian future when alien parasites have nearly won the battle for Earth." Ben Kenigsberg, Time Out New York.

"The directive behind this sequel, clearly, was non-stop action. Let's think about that phrase a second. Do we really want our action movies to deliver action that does not stop? Ever? I get a little tired of action sequences that won't stop." Michael Phelps, Chicago Tribune.

Annapolis Teen Qualifies for World Championship Swim Meet Patch Annapolis, MD --

An Annapolis High School junior recently turned heads across the country by placing first in a world championship qualifying meet.

Before the sun comes up, Gavin Colley and his parents drive an hour to Baltimore and back every morning before school to practice at the North Baltimore Aquatic Club. The prestigious facility is where Olympian Michael Phelps trained, and still visits regularly.

Training here affords Colley some of the best coaching available in the country, and opened him up to a network of peers who are just as supportive outside the water as they are competitive within.

All the hard work paid off in March, when 16-year-old Colley took the top spot in a 400-meter swim against some of the best talent in the East Coast, with ages ranging from 14 to 26. The qualifying meet in Buffalo, NY, puts Colley on track for the world championship trials in June.

It’s the Olympics for the years where there are no Olympics. But does Colley dream of one day chasing Phelps to Olympic gold?

“Of course, that’s everyone’s dream. It would be great, but there’s still a lot to do before then,” the Annapolis teen said. “In the short term, my mind is focused on training for the upcoming trials.”

Colley also has college to consider, and is hoping to land a scholarship or two based on his performances in the pool.

“We’re very proud of him, of course,” said Gavin’s father, Doug Colley. “His swimming is really a source of family pride. We all get a big smile out of that.”

He said his son gave him the medal he earned at the March qualifying meet.

“That was a big deal to me, because I’m not just his dad. I’m his biggest fan." Reported by Patch 18 hours ago.

"This trip isn’t so notable. It’s not bad. Some bits are enjoyable. But ultimately, other than some genuinely impressive visuals, it never makes a compelling-enough case to justify its existence." Bill Goodykoontz, Arizona Republic. Full Review

"A gore-for-broke affair that strips the flesh off Sam Raimi's cult-beloved comic-horror franchise and exposes the demons at its core." John DeFore, The Hollywood Reporter. Full Review

"An ode to the strength of onscreen horror even in its less inspired state, the new Evil Dead primarily succeeds at illustrating how the originals have managed to stand the test of time." Eric Kohn, IndieWIRE. Full Review

*Jurassic Park 3D*

· *Run Time:* 127mins.

· *Director:* Steven Spielberg

"One great monster movie. [11 June 1993, Daily Notebook, p.C1]" Mike LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle.

"The suspense and technical wizardry are the only reason to watch Jurassic Park. In a summer movie, that's more than enough, of course. But screenwriter Michael Crichton, adapting his popular novel with David Koepp, slashes almost everything that made the book an entertaining read." Desson Thomas, Washington Post.

*Tyler Perry's Temptation*

· Run Time: 111mins.
· Starring: Jurnee Smollett , Vanessa Williams , Brandy , Kim Kardashian ,Robbie Jones
· Director: Tyler Perry
· *Trailer*

"Limp pacing and countless shots of Washington’s skyline plague the narrative. Ms. Smollett-Bell exudes an earthy appeal, but it’s the charismatic Mr. Jones who steals the picture. Given all the stifling preachiness, that’s to be expected." Andy Webster, The New York Times. Full Review

"Temptation’s refusal to find nuance in its didactic worldview ensures that the film will ultimately only succeed for audiences already in agreement with it." Village Voice. Full Review

*The Host*

· *Run Time:* 125mins.
· *Starring:* Saoirse Ronan , William Hurt , Max Irons , Jake Abel , Diane Kruger
· *Director:* Andrew Niccol
· *Trailer*

"An 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers' retread told from a postoccupation vantage point, this adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s YA romance novel unfolds in a dystopian future when alien parasites have nearly won the battle for Earth." Ben Kenigsberg, Time Out New York.

*G.I. Joe: Retaliation*

· *Run Time:* 110mins.
· *Starring:* Dwayne Johnson , Channing Tatum , D.J. Cotrona , Adrianne Palicki , Ray Stevenson
· *Director:* Jon M. Chu
· *Trailer*

"It's not enough to call this the rare franchise action movie to bring the goods; it's the even rarer one whose creators seem to understand what the goods even are." Alan Scherstuhl, Village Voice.

"The directive behind this sequel, clearly, was non-stop action. Let's think about that phrase a second. Do we really want our action movies to deliver action that does not stop? Ever? I get a little tired of action sequences that won't stop." Michael Phelps, Chicago Tribune.

*The Croods (3D)*

· *Run Time*: 98mins.
· *Starring*: Nicolas Cage , Ryan Reynolds , Emma Stone , Catherine Keener , Clark Duke
· *Director*: Kirk De Micco, Chris Sanders
· *Trailer*

"This Chris Sanders fellow knows how to craft a heart-warming animation, and if not for a few minor problems this would have had a legitimate shot at the best animated movie of 2013." Laremy Legel, Film.com

"The movie is at its most interesting and amusing when riffing on how cavemen might have reacted to new experiences and ideas, like fire and shoes. Whether the kiddies will appreciate that is unclear, but they’ll certainly like the voice work done by Emma Stone as Eep." Neil Genzlinger, The New York Times.

*Olympus Has Fallen*

· *Run Time*: N/A
· *Starring*: Gerard Butler , Morgan Freeman , Aaron Eckhart , Angela Bassett , Melissa Leo
· *Director*: Antoine Fuqua
· *Trailer*

"While Olympus Has Fallen breaks no major new ground in the political thriller genre, Fuqua has directed a sharp, very taut adventure that keeps you engrossed from start to finish." Bill Zwecker, Chicago Sun-Times.

"Perhaps every generation gets the movie stars it deserves. “Olympus” has quite a bit to say about the current state of our country. Intentions aside, not all of it is entirely flattering." Elizabeth Weitzman, New York Daily News.
